What are your qualifications for tutoring?
Our tutors are chemistry professionals with a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. We all have over ten years of experience as chemists and chemistry tutors.
What types of chemistry do you tutor?
We provide homework help in general, honors, AP and college chemistry, and first semester organic chemistry.
Where do I get tutored from?
Our service is designed for you to use at home, but you can use it annywhere you have access to a computer and a broadband internet connection. Just remember you need a headset for voice chat, but it’s not a requirement to use the classroom.
Is your system safe?
Very safe. We do not require home addresses or phone numbers on our registration form. Because payment is done with Paypal, your financial information is never revealed to us. We prohibit the exchange of any personal information in the classroom. We will never ask you any personal questions nor will we divulge any personal information about ourselves.
Will my email address remain private?
Yes. We do not provide our client's email addresses to anyone. Period.
Is there a time limit on sessions?
No. Our goal is to help get the student on their way within 20 minutes, but we realize some questions might take longer.
My child works hard in chemistry, but he/she constantly struggles chapter after chapter. Can you help?
We will certainly try! Our service is geared towards the more diligent student. Usually students in this category just need the concepts explained to them differently or in greater depth than they are at school. However, please understand that this scenario might go beyond the scope of live homework help, and private in person tutoring would be a better solution. This is especially true if it's later in the school year. Because chemistry is a cumulative subject, our tutors are trained to assume students have a solid grasp of the basics. We feel live homework help is most effective when its scope is limited to students who, for example, can't do the problems in chapter 9 because it's a difficult chapter for them, and not because they didn't get the basics down in chapter 2.
How do you determine if a student is unmotivated?
As mentioned on our home page, we work with the student in solving their homework problem, key word being with. Unmotivated students tend to be very hands off in sessions. They also tend to be impatient and give short responses to leading questions. Some are even sassy or rude to tutors. This is usually because they never read the chapters in their textbook, and typically wait until the last minute to do the homework, so they are just looking for a quick answer to get by.
My teacher/professor said we are allowed to seek help for our take home tests, so why won't you help me?
We have no way of verifying if a student is really given the ok to get help on take home tests. Because of the obvious issues with honesty, we avoid it all together.
Why am I not prompted to log in?
Do you offer homework help in other subjects?
No. Only in chemistry. We may add additional sciences as we grow.
How long after a session is the transcript available?
Transcripts are permanently archived every Sunday at 12PM EST.
